Spring Rains Developments is resources sustainable food and water security initiatives in remote rural settings in the developing world. Our chosen agency at this time is the Bopoma Village Trust in Zimbabwe that is training young adults in their communities through their Youth Agriculture Training Program .
The Bopoma Village Trust was formed to address the acute problem facing high school graduates in the Zaka region of Zimbabwe. Unfortunately, students graduate into an area suffering from the extreme lack of employment opportunities. This problem manifests at the most basic level of life for these young adults -- food and water insecurity, not to mention right up through their hierarchy of needs .
Bopoma Village Trust oversees the Youth Agriculture Training Program that provides two-four month semesters per annum in soil restoration, organic farming, poultry husbandry, rain water harvesting and personal hygiene. The program equips its students to grow their own nutrient rich vegetables and protect them with pest management skills and how to provide for water hydration in an area threatened by drought. In its essence they are equipped to survive with a healthy diet when they graduate.

My vision is to help my community by teaching them to grow using organic farming methods. I also want to start my own garden project and grow different varieties including herbs, provide for my family and sell the surplus for my broiler project.
During my training for four months I learned much on organic gardening which does not encourage use of chemicals and fertilizes. I also learned about growing broilers from day 1 to 6 weeks.
